CP-TA Progress Report — January 2008
by Sven Freudenfeld, Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA)
In November 2007, the Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA) partnered with PICMG to host a joint Interoperability Workshop, demonstrating structured testing to industry profiles. Open to members of PICMG and CP-TA, the workshop attracted 19 companies to test products for interoperability issues. Although AdvancedTCA testing was done, the workshop focused mainly on MicroTCA and AMC. The results are confidential to the participating companies so that the testing can take place in an environment focused on learning and resolving issues. Companies were able to find bugs early in the design process and address interoperability issues right away.
At the event, CP-TA also demonstrated new thermal and manageability test tools for AMC and MicroTCA. Polaris Networks demonstrated the new MicroTCA Tester. This test tool, to be released in the near future, incorporates the IPMB analyzer. DegreeC also demonstrated prototype thermal test tools for AMC and MicroTCA. More details on CP-TA’s test tools can be found at www.polarisnetworks.net and at www.degreec.com.
Since the release of its Interoperability Compliance Document (ICD) 1.1 and Test Procedure Manual (TPM) 1.1 in October of last year, CP-TA has continued to make strides on updated versions.
“During the InteropFest, CP-TA demonstrated that it is on track on its current roadmap of delivering a MicroTCA interoperability specification in Q1 of 2008,” said Todd Keaffaber, CP-TA Technical Work Group Chair.
CP-TA will be providing updates on its activities at the upcoming Mountain View Alliance Communications Ecosystem Conference (MVA CEC) at the South San Francisco Conference Center on March 11-12 (see www.mvacec.com).
